"If a dangerous situation is brewing, leave" and "if you can't leave, do your best to resolve situations with words" were rules 1 and 2 when I was learning Tae Kwon Do, and the ways one learns to carry one's physical and spiritual confidence absolutely contribute to deescalating potential conflict.
Yep. Knowing you can handle a fight if you have to means you don't feel the need to prove it, and often means others don't choose to make you prove it, either.
