Movie Rec: Wreck-It Ralph
I've been such a good girl on NaNoWriMo so far (more than a full day ahead of quota, go me!), that I got to go out to a movie last night. It was at a friend's urging, and I mis-heard the title as "Rocket Ralph" so I didn't even know the premise, but what the heck, eh?
I'm so glad, because Wreck-It Ralph turned out to be a total blast. I really, really enjoyed it. Even if you weren't the arcade rat that I was as a child, the different eras of video games represented should be amusing; for me, it was a nostalgia shot straight to the vein. The story was surprisingly well-developed, with a couple of different layers going on and the twists well-prepared without being obvious. The characters were all entirely appropriate to their source games without being short on dimensions. And I may actually want the soundtrack on CD, k-pop-ish though it is.
In short, if you want a good, fun, and touching-despite-your-best-resistance story, Wreck-It Ralph is strongly recommended. Fair warning: You will leave the theater with a craving for empty calories. Just accept it.
