I wouldn't go so far as to say that coffee is necessary for writing, but it certainly does make the process less painful and more productive. My preferred delivery system is a Beaner's double hazelnut mocha (of course with the whipped cream), but chocolate-covered coffee beans have also yielded good results. A poor man's mocha (instant coffee and hot cocoa mix) is better than nothing, but doesn't really give the desired buzz; I think there's some synergistic effect from the milk, coffee, and chocolate in a proper mocha that the homemade substitute doesn't replicate.
Picked up a pack of Frappuccino during today's errand-running. I'll be interested to see how that works; don't know if temperature is a relevant factor. (I wonder what effect nuking a Frap would have?)
