Querying agents is like the speed-dating version of serial monogamy. You have to fall a little bit in love with this agent, to make it seem worth doing all the research and personalization. You have to believe they're going to say yes, because otherwise what's the point? If you're doing your due diligence, you can't help but get a little wrapped up in this agent.

And then as soon as you've clicked Send, you have to fall out of love with this agent -- not just so that you're not crushed if this one says no, but so that you can move on to the next agent and fall in love with them. And then you repeat the whole process with the next agent, and the next one, and so on.
