I'm not querying anything right now and feeling vaguely uneasy about it. Am I giving up? Geeze, if I've put 22 years into it already, what's the point in giving up now? Especially since I'm not going to stop writing anytime soon.
But my last attempt at a query still rankles. I had an opportunity to luck into a actual non-form response from an agent, deserved or no, based on a query + 5pages, if I submitted within a certain time frame.
So I did a quick check of my notes to see if maybe I had a novel submission ready that I hadn't yet attempted to query this particular agent for, and I ran my hastily prepared synopsis past a bunch of people I didn't know well, because I needed feedback fast. But the only part of their advice I actually understood, it seemed, was "make it shorter" which I did and did and did again, at their request until I was well under the suggested length. The responders didn't seem to think it was much of an improvement.

In the end I just had to send it in as is.
