I think Michael is so thrown by the fact that it's Fiona who's caught in Anton's trap (rather than himself) that he's failing to look at all the options. I mean really, would he normally give up and roll over this easily?
Also, Madeline is totally kick-ass at this spy stuff. If the CIA had any sense at all, they'd recruit her.
