lizvogelThe story's coming along well. There's been a couple of impressive output days, and plenty of solid workmanlike output days, and it is very nearly done. Well, pretty close to done, anyway. Definitely on the done-ward side of progressing, at least.
Yesterday turned out to be an editing day, starting when my back-brain woke me up hours too early with solutions to several of the naming and word-choice issues I'd been struggling with the day before. Not good for my word-count, but I de-bracketed the hell out of things. Which makes me feel a lot better (I was getting worried about those missing planet names), plus I'm quite tickled about several of the names I came up with.
And then there's today, which has been a brick wall day. I tried, I really did, but some days the words just aren't happening. When I realized I was contemplating both querying agents and dusting as agreeable alternate activities, it became clear that the word reservoir needs to recharge. Ordinarily this would be fine -- I'm well over my word-count goal for the month, I've been very good lately, and periodic recharging is part of my process -- but ordinarily I don't have a deadline bearing down on me, and this thing needs to be done, beta-read, revised, titled (aaagghh!), and ready to go no later than Monday's mail. So I waffled, but... dry is dry. Some days you just have to eat waffles (mmm, waffles), read, and let the reserves refill. (Funny how that dusting is suddenly less appealing.) So today is officially a day off.
And tomorrow I will nail that sucker.
